Spelunking Brooklyn

This is what I did today:

manhole

There's a secret tunnel under Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn, which is the oldest subway tunnel ever dug, and barely used. It was sealed up a long time ago before being discovered by Bob Diamond, who now gives monthly tours. It's really quite cool. And now I feel like I've really seen the insides of my neighborhood.

Look for the rest of the pictures on my Flickr profile later tonight or tomorrow. (There's a neat little widget for you in the sidebar.

That is awesome! I don't suppose you could point me to a website with info on the tours? It's something I'd love to squeeze into a visit to my sister in Brooklyn this fall... Or send her on without me if the dates don't line up.

Wow. My day was so boring in comparison. That's way cool.

Have you read the Kiki Strike books? I THINK that's New York--secret underground city.
